Woodworking Series: Part 3 - Wooden Design Styles!
The rustic design style is a great way to create that homey, farmhouse feel that naturally welcomes your guests into your home. There is a ton of potential here because recycled and repurposed items can be perfectly imperfect for rustic designs. This is because more than likely, they have some age to them and may even look a little worn, which is what you want when going for the rustic look! Picture frames, wall signs, table centerpieces, and shelves are all perfect items to serve as the starting point for your next farmhouse décor project! If you have a new wooden item that you would like to add a rustic look to yourself, hacking it a few times with a small hatchet, roughing up the edges, and even denting the wood slightly is a good starting point. Stain the wood with your color of choice to finish things off and dry. Rustic decor designs are perfect for living rooms, kitchens, and any other high traffic areas in your home because they are so versatile and look good year-round!
The “modern” décor look is a style that is growing in popularity as the individualistic, artistic mindset becomes more prevalent. It’s hard to put a concrete definition on this style as we did with the rustic style because the modern style is more subject to interpretation and changes in social media trends. The style itself is just like you, unique and individual in its own way. There are some general concepts that are generally prevalent in all current “modern” décor styles. With the ever-growing presence of technology, it is something that you will more than likely find incorporated into the modern design. The “smart home” concept is growing on a daily basis and many devices also serve as decorations in their own right. Sleek designs, a good mix of warm and cool accent colors, and lots of symmetry are staples for this look but that’s only half of it. The rest of the work is up to you to separate your style from your crafting peers!
